About Dr. Roland

G. Charles Roland, M.D. is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in arthroscopic, reconstructive, and total knee joint surgery. His expertise also includes shoulder, hip, and spine procedures, providing comprehensive care across the full spectrum of orthopedic conditions.

​

Dr. Roland graduated with honors from the University of Iowa, where he was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and received the Evascheski Award for achieving the highest GPA on the football team (3.89/4.0). He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Iowa School of Medicine, where he was awarded the Rosenfield Academic Scholarship.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, followed by the prestigious San Diego Knee and Sports Medicine Fellowship, training at the UC San Diego VA Hospital, Kaiser Hospital, and with the San Diego Chargers professional football team.

​

In February 2011, Dr. Roland completed a sabbatical at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, further refining his skills in advanced orthopedic care.

​

Dr. Roland served as an Orthopaedic Surgery Clinical Instructor at the UCSD Department of Family Medicine, where he volunteered his time teaching medical students and sports medicine fellows. He has also provided team physician services for professional, collegiate, and high school athletic programs, including Point Loma Nazarene University and Mission Bay High School.

A dedicated contributor to the field, Dr. Roland has published numerous scientific articles and delivered presentations on arthroscopic treatment of knee, shoulder, and ankle injuries. His research has been featured at national and international professional meetings and conferences.

​

Dr. Roland currently serves as a Qualified Medical Examiner (QME) for the State of California, an Independent Medical Examiner (IME), an Agreed Medical Examiner (AME), and expert witness. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

With decades of experience, Dr. Roland has performed thousands of arthroscopic, reconstructive, and total joint procedures, offering world-class expertise with the accessibility of a private practice setting.

​

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and photographing nature at his family ranch in Montana.

Dr. Roland has extensive experience as an orthopedic surgeon and has performed thousands of arthroscopic, reconstructive, and total joint surgeries.

Dr. Roland has published numerous scientific journal articles and has given many presentations on subjects such as arthroscopic treatment of knee, shoulder, and ankle injuries, as well as presenting scientific papers at professional meetings.​

Community Work​

​

Dr. Roland has committed significant time to community service, beginning with two years at Martin Luther King Hospital in Compton, California, where he served as an Emergency Room Consultant. In this role, he provided critical care in the general ER and outpatient clinic while mentoring paramedics, medical students, and interns, helping to strengthen the local healthcare workforce.

​

In addition, Dr. Roland has volunteered as an Orthopaedic Surgery Clinical Instructor at the UCSD Department of Family Medicine, teaching medical students and sports medicine fellows and fostering the next generation of physicians. He has also served the community as a team physician, providing medical oversight and care to professional, collegiate, and high school athletes, including Point Loma Nazarene University and Mission Bay High School, ensuring the health and safety of local sports programs.
